Crankshaft inc Bearings - Reconditioned - Long Back Crank
*Note: ‘Long’ and ‘short backed’ refer to the depth of the rear oil seal surface.
Having removed the flywheel and any spacers, if the end of the crank is flush
with the engine back plate, it is a ‘short backed’ crank. If almost an inch of
crankshaft stands proud, a ‘long backed’ crank is fitted.
The flywheel design differs accordingly, i.e. long back cranks use a recessed
flywheel, short backs a non recessed flywheel.
A short back crank may be used to replace an original TR5, TR250 long back item,
but only if the flywheel is swapped for the later version as well. In case you
should wish to do so, or in case a previous engine rebuilder has already swapped
the crank and flywheel pair in your engine, the short back crank and flywheel are
listed in this section.
