New original late spec' double bulge bonnets are no longer widely available. This variation is a modified Early spec' bonnet with the double bulge 'handworked' in and it is indistinguishable from the original apart from the bulge sitting 4" further forward. It does not affect any engine clearance requirements for the TR7 or TR8.

Availability of  this variation of the double bulge bonnet is now also becoming limited and what is available is showing signs of a long storage life. Some bonnets may have minor indentations that will require a small amount of preparatory work prior to painting and fitting.

Bonnet cables have no reason to break if they are regularly inspected and lubricated. If the cable does break, some serious 'fiddling' will need to be done to release the mechanism. Be aware that bending up the corner of the bonnet and trying to pull the catch with a bent wire coat hanger is expensive on bonnets! If in doubt about the quality or operation of your bonnet release cable, replace it or install a back-up bonnet release cable kit (6034689EBR). If you have already the misfortune of a broken cable, the emergency bonnet release kit 710592EBR may assist in opening the bonnet on TR4-6 models.
