A 13 Row Oil to Air Cooler with 5/8" BSP male thread fittings of a pressed plate design.

As used on many British classics.

It is good practice when modifying engines to allow for extra cooling, engine oil should not get too cool or too hot as this can lead to rapid engine wear. Depending on climate a 10 row Oil Cooler is usually suitable for road use, a 13 row Oil Cooler for fast road/sport, a 16 row Oil Cooler for sport/sprints, and a 19 row Oil Cooler for competition/race. Oil Cooler Installation Kits are available separately, allowing you the choice of cooling depending upon your application, and include ready assembled hoses. We can also supply thermostatic control valves.

Oil thermostat with 5/8" push fit connectors - 80ºC opening temperature. Use inline with oil cooler kit and rubber hoses.

Engine oil has an optimum operating temperature designed to maximise lubrication whilst maintaining good oil pressure. Oil coolers help maintain this balance during the summer months but can over cool the oil when the weather starts to get cold. A thermostat will ensure that this doesn't happen.

With an oil thermostat installed, the initial volume of oil warming up to temperature is reduced (ie. the volume of oil within the cooler is not circulated at this time) allowing the engine to reach operating temperature more quickly contributing to a more efficient engine. Once that oil exceeds 80ºC the thermostat opens and gradually introduces the cooler oil as required, closing off if the oil cools to below 80ºC. The temperature threshold of 80ºC is not coincidental as this is the temperature required to evaporate off contaminants which form and concentrate within the engine oil during the combustion process. If these contaminants are not "burnt off" they can cause sludge to form in the crankcase and alter the oil sufficiently enough to cause a chemical attack on the precious white metal crankshaft bearings. This is a common symptom exhibited by engines that cover regular, short journeys.

The thermostat is constructed with lightweight materials allowing it to be easily supported by the rubber hoses.

Also available: RS1456 - oil thermostat with push fit 1/2" connectors.
RX2039 - oil thermostat with screw fit 1/2" connectors.

Product Description

Triumph TR8 V8 Oil Cooler Kit
If high oil temperatures are a problem, for example when towing, the V8 engine will benefit from the fitting of an oil cooler. We recommend fitting a thermostat at the same time, to avoid overcooling.
Note: An oil cooler was incorporated into the Range Rover's coolant radiator with the introduction of the 3.9 litre engine.
The Series 2 Range Rover has a separate oil cooler.
