‘SOCTFL’ was established by the Stag Owners Club in the early ’90s for the purpose of encouraging re manufacture of high quality body panels and other parts for the Triumph Stag that are no longer available from original sources.
The number of Triumph Stags still ‘on the road’ is estimated at 6,500 in the UK and possibly a further 2,000 world-wide, so in terms of automotive manufacturing the production volumes for our projects are low and not commercially viable. However, SOCTFL is able to make limited grants and loans to manufacturers to subsidise tooling and production, and has established a distribution network in co-operation with the specialist suppliers.
By this means we have been able to encourage manufacture and distribution in low volumes in order to offer Club members these high quality panels and parts at affordable prices. The basis under which this is achieved is agreed between SOCTFL and the National Committee of the Stag Owners Club. Some examples of products supported by SOCTFL are reinforced water hoses, water pump shafts, and body panels such as door skins, wheel arch panels, and rain channels.
A current list is published each month in the SOC Magazine along with details of suppliers who normally carry stock. As with the Stag Owners Club itself, SOCTFL is run by volunteers on a part time basis. SOCTFL currently has a strong and well-qualified management team, but new volunteers are always welcome. Experience in automotive engineering, commercial management, or project management is particularly useful but is not a pre-requisite. Enthusiasm and an interest in the cars are the essential factors!
