MGF & MG TF Instant Mobility System
For MGF Trophy models with the curiously named (but in fact logical) ‘delete spare wheel’ option, a kit was provided to temporarily effect repair on most types of puncture that might be encountered, thus enabling the car to be ‘limped’ to a tyre repair workshop. Called the Instant Mobility System (IMS), the kit featured a high pressure cannister to rapidly seal and re-inflate the offending tyre.
Neither the original MGF Trophy kit nor replacement cannisters to fit in it are available at time of writing, nor have been for some time. As a result, MG Rover came up with a housing (box to you and me) in which the later MG?TF cannister could be safely stowed in the MGF Trophy - or indeed in any other MGF if the owner wished to fit it.
The ‘delete spare wheel’ specification was made standard on the MG?TF 160 and optional on all other MG?TF models. As inferred above, cars so specified were equipped with a different Instant Mobility System (IMS) kit to that fitted in the MGF Trophy.
