Triumph TR6 Body Shell
The TR6 body shell (please check for current availability) has been produced to replace shells beyond economic repair, due to damage or corrosion. They are supplied on a slave transportation frame to preserve door gaps and other panel alignment until the shell is supported by a chassis. The slave frame can then be returned against refund of a nominal deposit. The electrophoretically primed shell is fitted with doors, wings, bonnet and boot.
We recommend that customers wishing to purchase a TR6 bodyshell should view the shell prior to ordering. The shells are made in small numbers, by hand - unlike modern cars produced by computer controlled machinery; and remember that the TR6 body dates from the late 1960’s - itself an evolution of a design from the early 1950’s. It’s easy to make unfair comparisons with modern vehicles designed and constructed at the start of a new millennium, but remember these cars were built primarily by hand in a beleaguered post war Britain- involving craft skills and a test of endurance long forgotten by many of us.
It is vital that prior to painting, customers should trial fit the bodyshell to their chassis to ensure correct alignment and make any adjustments necessary. This may seem like hard work but, with the enticement of beer all round, friends will flock to help; and the end result will make all the work seem worthwhile.
British Motor Heritage is the only manufacturer of new bodyshells, an amazing feat when you consider the logistics and complexity involved along with the age and condition of press tooling - some tooling is missing or unusable! That shells are available at all is an achievement to be applauded and Triumph owners now have an almost unique tool at their disposal with which to keep the TR6 flag flying.
Note: Customers who are rebuilding or restoring a car should contact our sales manager for details on our special packages.
