Stromberg CD175 Carburettors It is quite straightforward (with the help of a workshop manual) to service and overhaul your own carburettors using the service items listed in this section. Both fuel economy and performance can suffer through lack of carburettor maintenance and with the recent tightening of the MOT regulations regarding ‘Exhaust Emissions’, it is important that they are properly maintained in good working order. Incorrectly adjusted or worn carb’s (as well as poorly maintained ignition systems) can also cause premature engine wear, because unburned fuel that remains in the cylinders causes ‘bore-wash’, which eventually glazes the bores, resulting in excessive oil consumption. We can recondition your own Stromberg carburettors, or we can supply reconditioned units - in Pairs, on a strict exchange basis. The listings here however are primarily for identification purposes. They will also show if you have the correct type of carb fitted (part numbers/engine numbers are quoted to help identify original factory specification, and relate to carb’s fitted when the vehicle was new and not subsequent replacements). To check, the carb’s can be identified by a number marked on a silver tag which is located on the dashpot cover by one of the 4 retaining screws. Having identified your carburettors, all you need do then is refer to the corresponding components.

Note: During the life-span of the Stag, Triumph/BL made numerous specification changes to the carb’s and components, they also changed and/or superseded original Triumph/BL carburettor part numbers (as per 311968 to RKC823) whilst still using the same Zenith ‘ID’ number. Many of these change points are not fully documented, however, to the best of our knowledge, the information above is correct. Re-conditioned Carb’s: In order to simplify & maintain a continuous supply of exchange carb’s, we basically class our units for either Mk1, or Mk2. However, if your Stag is one of the very few that were equipped with the ‘Tamper proof’ type carb’s, please call us.

Air Cleaner & Fittings (Twin Air-Intake) MK1

MK1 Air Cleaners Theoretically (according to BL parts book 519579/B), all Mk1 (European) Stags were equipped with ‘Twin-Intake’ air cleaners that did not have a ‘Thermic’ valve fitted, however, a later (reprinted) ‘BL’ parts book clearly states that late Mk1’s could be fitted with a ‘Thermic’ valve? Just a little confusing! So although we have illustrated the version showing a Mk1 air cleaner fitted with the valve (just to be safe!), we are not convinced the illustration - and/or the information from the factory is correct, if it is, then we have used the proper drawing. If though (as we have always believed) that Mk1’s for the UK & Europe were never equipped with a thermic valve, then just ignore it!
